Volunteer opportunities at Alternatives include the following:

  • Client Advocates – Meet with clients to extend support, friendship and the gospel of Jesus Christ. They serve clients by listening with compassion and presenting positive alternatives to abortion. Advocates conduct regular sessions with clients participating in the Caring Connection Program, and provide spiritual nurturing and growth opportunities through regular Bible studies. This may involve showing clients videos on pregnancy, fetal development, and labor. Advocates are there to be supportive and to walk through their pregnancy with them. We are looking for mature, Christian women, at least 25 years old, to agree on a one-year commitment to meet with clients at least twice a month with approximately 4-hour shifts. This includes answering phones and meeting with clients for pregnancy test appointments. Training is provided.
  • Receptionists – Welcome clients with a smile, answer telephones, help with scheduling and filing. We can always use help around the office.
  • Church Liaisons – Promote awareness of Alternatives within churches. An individual or a group of people, even a Sunday School class, can act as a liaison to promote upcoming events sponsored by Alternatives. They may also assist with volunteer recruitment and notify Alternatives’ staff about speaking and promotional opportunities.
  • “Why kNOw” Program Assistance – Work with the staff and other volunteers in presenting the abstinence message to youth in our community. There are two leadership positions available to direct this program, and as it expands and grows it will include the help of many volunteers. The leadership positions require some training on the Why kNOw curriculum.

Other Opportunities - Dive in and share your talents and passions with us on anything from building upkeep to remodeling, painting, fund raising, serving on The Walk for Life or Banquet committees, inputting computer data, sorting items, or helping with bi-monthly mailings.

Please call Alternatives at (319)232-5683 if you are interested or would like more information on any of these opportunities. We look forward to hearing from you!

We are always accepting material donations for the Center and our clients. If you or a group would like to donate items, please feel free to drop them off in our Center during office hours.

The role of a pregnancy center volunteer is a critical one. Because of this, we take seriously our responsibility to recruit and train those whom we believe would be most effective serving in this capacity. The process for becoming a volunteer is designed to assess where an applicant’s gift and talents might best be used.

Please download and complete the volunteer application form and return it to Alternatives. Reference forms should be completed by your pastor and two other people who will be able to assess your character and skills. After completion, each person should return the reference form to Alternatives. When all of your documents have been returned, I will contact you to schedule a time for an interview.

Thank you so much for your prayerful consideration of volunteering your time and talents to Alternatives. We welcome new workers in our efforts to impact the lives and futures of the women we serve.
